Placing end users at the centre of any design process makes it possible to create truly meaningful and innovative solutions that target and satisfy previously unmet needs. Following this idea, the development of the G5-02 welding helmet too is based on thorough user research aimed at improving visibility conditions during welding. The result is a welding helmet for high-precision TIG welding that showcases the special feature of an innovatively curved auto-darkening filter. The curvature follows the curved shape of the human head and not only allows for a narrower helmet design, but also enlarges the range of vision so that extended peripheral vision becomes possible. The very fast automatic darkening technology makes colours appear more natural while reducing reflections and glare during welding. The helmet itself has become lighter and slimmer as a result of this innovation and showcases a reduced, organic design that is inspired by humanoid robots and further accentuated by the distinctive side knobs for flipping up the anti-glare face shield. The helmet’s centre of gravity is closer to the centre of the users’ head, resulting in better weight distribution and correspondingly enhanced wearing comfort. In addition, the control panel is designed to be intuitive, with the most frequently used controls located within easy reach on both sides of the viewing area.
